Tours
Night-time astro-tourism tour led by an astronomer with over 10 years of experience. They pick you up at your hotel and drive about 30 km along Provincial Route 11 to Estancia La Catalina, far from the city lights. There you look at the moon, planets, nebulae and stars through telescopes, then with the naked eye: you learn to find the cardinal points using the stars, about the Milky Way and the mythology of the native peoples of the Americas. Warm ponchos, binoculars and telescopes are provided, and you take home a group photo with the sky behind you. At the end there's tea, coffee and a sweet table with alfajores and loaf cakes. It lasts 2 to 3 hours, no astronomy knowledge is needed and there's no minimum age. It runs every day from September 15 to May 31 (not on December 24 and 31); it is only cancelled for rain, and then you can reschedule or get your money back. With Calafate Pass, on top of the group photo, you get a photo of your own with the sky behind you.

Dress warmer than you think: nights on the steppe are cold even after a nice day, and the ponchos help but aren't enough. Bring your camera and your mate set. In December and January pick-up is an hour later, at 10 pm. Book ahead and mention Calafate Pass for your free photo.
