Park entry fee

Patagonia's most visited glacier, just metres from the walkways. You pay the National Park entry; walking the walkways costs nothing extra.

Bring a jacket even if it's sunny, because it gets colder near the ice, and stay quiet for a while facing the glacier: that's when you hear it best.

Common questions

Are there free tours in El Calafate?

They sometimes appear on platforms like GuruWalk, but there aren't always dates available. If you can't find one, you can see the town on your own: there are three free self-guided walking routes to pick from, depending on the time you have.

See the walking routes

What can I do for free if I'm short on time?

Stay in the center: the Paseo de los Artesanos, the Paseo de los Gnomos and the National Park's Intendencia are all right there. If you have an afternoon, walk to the Costanera and Bahía Redonda, less than 2 km away, and stay for the sunset.

Do I have to pay to enter the National Park?

It depends on the area. To visit the Perito Moreno Glacier you pay the Park entry; walking the walkways costs nothing extra. Lago Roca is also inside the Park, but in a free-access area.

Do I need a car for these walks?

Not for the ones in town: you can walk there from the center. The Perito Moreno Glacier, Lago Roca and Cerro Cristal are more than 45 km away, so for those you'll need a car or a transfer.

Want a plan for the day?

There are itineraries that combine these walks: one for a free day in town and one for a tight budget.
